Welcome to the tenth edition of The Call, the Interspecies Internet newsletter. This bimonthly update brings together key moments from our community and the wider field of interspecies communication, ethics, cognition, and more-than-human futures.
🤖 Where Were We During the Summertime?
Gentler Futures Festival 2026, Lisbon
In June, Ecosystem Manager Carolina Almeida presented at the Gentler Futures Festival in Lisbon with a talk titled "Interspecies Internet: Connecting, Imagining, Co-creating." It was our first formal step into the design world, and it sparked rich conversations on regenerative design, non-human agency, and what it means to design with other species rather than just around them. 🏛️ FAB26, Boston
At FAB26, we brought together researchers, engineers, and designers — from wildlife sensing to companion-animal interfaces — for a panel and working session on where the field is headed: from interfaces that let animals signal, to ML systems that find representations in that data, to infrastructure that can mediate real interaction between species. A recurring theme was that the technology largely exists already; what's missing is shared infrastructure to connect projects that have developed in isolation. The conversation continues at NYC Climate Week. |

🌳 Heading to NYC Climate Week
Together with Nature Tech Collective, we're hosting a session at the Doris Duke Foundation: "Building the Technical Foundations of an Interspecies Internet."
The session will help us continue the conversations kick-started at FAB26, map the work already being done, understand the gaps, and assemble a working group to outline the first steps toward an interspecies internet.
We’re focusing on: → Sensing & data collection → AI models & shared datasets → Governance, ethics & data sovereignty → Interoperable infrastructure
